Can I restrict purchases on my account?

Setting spending controls.

Yes — there are several practical ways to control and restrict purchases on your Inspire Uplift account. Whether you're a parent worried about unauthorized purchases by your children, sharing a device with family members, or simply want to add extra security to your account, this guide covers everything you can do.

Quick Steps to Restrict Purchases

If you want to prevent unauthorized purchases right now, here are the most effective actions in order of impact:

  1. Remove saved payment methods — No saved card means a payment method must be entered manually for every purchase
  2. Enable two-factor authentication — Requires a verification code (sent to your phone or email) to log in, which prevents anyone else from accessing your account
  3. Log out on shared devices — Prevents others from using your active session
  4. Don't save your password in shared browsers — Stops auto-fill from giving access to your account

These four steps together make unauthorized purchases virtually impossible. Let's go through each in detail.

Remove Saved Payment Methods

This is the single most effective restriction. Without a saved payment method, anyone who accesses your account still can't buy anything because they'd need to manually enter card details.

How to Remove Saved Payment Methods:

  1. Log into your account at www.inspireuplift.com
  2. Go to Account Settings
  3. Find Payment Methods or Saved Cards
  4. Delete each saved payment method
  5. Confirm the removal

What This Does:

  • Every future purchase requires manually entering a full card number, expiration date, and CVV
  • Someone browsing your account can't complete a purchase without having a physical card in hand
  • You can always re-save a payment method later when you want the convenience back

Best For:

  • Shared devices that children or others can access
  • Extra security when you won't be shopping for a while
  • Preventing impulse purchases (a side benefit for budget-conscious shoppers)

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a verification step when logging in — even if someone knows your password, they can't access your account without the code sent to your phone or email.

How to Enable 2FA:

  1. Log into your account
  2. Go to Account Settings > Security
  3. Enable Two-Factor Authentication
  4. Follow the prompts to set up verification via your phone or email
  5. Confirm with the test code

What This Does:

  • Logging in requires your password PLUS a verification code
  • The code is sent to your phone or email — devices only you should have access to
  • Even if your child knows your password, they can't get past the verification step
  • Also protects against hackers and unauthorized access from outside your household

Best For:

  • Preventing children from logging into your account
  • General account security (recommended for everyone)
  • Households where multiple people know the WiFi password and could access your devices

Log Out on Shared Devices

If you stay logged in on a family computer, tablet, or phone, anyone who picks up that device can access your account.

Make It a Habit:

  • Always log out of Inspire Uplift when you're done shopping on shared devices
  • Don't rely on closing the browser — explicitly click Log Out from your account menu
  • Check that automatic login isn't keeping you signed in

How to Log Out:

  1. Click your profile icon or name
  2. Select Log Out or Sign Out
  3. Confirm you're logged out by seeing the Sign In button

For Extra Security:

  • Clear the browser history and cookies after logging out on shared devices
  • Use incognito/private browsing mode when shopping on shared computers — this prevents your session from being saved

Don't Save Passwords in Shared Browsers

If your browser auto-fills your Inspire Uplift login, anyone using that device can log into your account with one click.

How to Remove Saved Passwords:

Chrome:

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords
  2. Find inspireuplift.com
  3. Click the three dots and select "Remove"

Safari:

  1. Go to Preferences > Passwords
  2. Find inspireuplift.com
  3. Select and delete

Firefox:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Saved Logins
  2. Find inspireuplift.com
  3. Click "Remove"

Edge:

  1. Go to Settings > Passwords
  2. Find inspireuplift.com
  3. Click the three dots and select "Delete"

Tip: After removing the saved password, make sure to also clear any auto-fill data for our site. Some browsers save form data separately from passwords.

Use Separate Accounts for Family Members

If multiple people in your household want to shop on Inspire Uplift, the safest approach is separate accounts:

Why Separate Accounts Are Better:

  • Each person has their own login credentials
  • No shared payment methods
  • Individual order histories
  • Separate wishlists and preferences
  • No risk of accidental purchases on someone else's payment method

How to Set Up:

  • Each family member creates their own account with their own email address
  • Each person saves only their own payment methods (if any)
  • Parents maintain control by not saving payment methods on children's accounts

For Teenagers: If you want to allow your teenager to shop independently with a budget:

  • Help them create their own account with their own email
  • Don't save any payment methods on their account
  • Give them a prepaid card loaded with a specific amount
  • They can enter the prepaid card at checkout for each purchase
  • Once the balance is used, no further purchases can be made without a new card
  • You maintain budget control while they get shopping independence

Use Prepaid Cards for Budget Control

Prepaid cards are an excellent tool for controlling spending on your account or allowing others to shop with a fixed budget:

How It Works:

  1. Purchase a Visa or Mastercard prepaid card at any retail store
  2. Load it with the amount you want to allow for spending
  3. Use this card at checkout instead of your regular credit or debit card
  4. Once the balance is used up, no more purchases can be made

Benefits:

  • Set a firm spending limit that can't be exceeded
  • Perfect for giving teenagers shopping independence with boundaries
  • Great for personal budget control if you tend to overspend online
  • No connection to your primary bank account
  • Can be reloaded when you're ready to allow more spending

Important: Prepaid cards must be registered for online use and have a billing address on file. See our guide on using prepaid cards for setup instructions.

Additional Security Recommendations

Review Your Account Periodically

Even with restrictions in place, it's a good habit to review your account regularly:

  • Check "My Orders" for any purchases you don't recognize
  • Review saved payment methods for cards you didn't add
  • Check shipping addresses for entries you don't recognize
  • Review account email and personal information for unauthorized changes
  • Check your bank and credit card statements for unexpected Inspire Uplift charges
Set Up Transaction Alerts With Your Bank

Most banks and credit card companies offer real-time alerts:

  • Get a text or email every time your card is charged
  • Set minimum thresholds (e.g., alert for any charge over $1)
  • This catches unauthorized purchases immediately — even if you don't discover them in your Inspire Uplift account right away
  • Contact your bank to set up these alerts
Watch for the $4.97 Charge

If you see a recurring $4.97 charge from Inspire Uplift that you didn't authorize, someone may have signed up for a Perks membership on your account:

  • Log into your account and check Account Settings for active Perks membership
  • Cancel if you didn't sign up for it
  • Contact us to cancel and request a refund for charges you didn't authorize

Parental Controls Specifically

If your primary concern is preventing children from making purchases:

For Younger Children (Under 13)
  • Don't create an account for them — Use your own account and supervise their browsing
  • Never save payment methods on devices they can access
  • Enable 2FA on your account so they can't log in without your phone
  • Log out every time you finish shopping
  • Use device-level parental controls — Most phones, tablets, and computers have parental control settings that can restrict browser access or require a password for purchases
For Teenagers
  • Create them their own account with their own email
  • Don't save payment methods on their account
  • Give them a prepaid card with a set budget if you want them to shop independently
  • Monitor their email for order confirmations if you want to track purchases
  • Have a conversation about responsible online shopping and spending
  • Set clear rules about what they can and can't buy and how much they can spend
If Your Child Made a Purchase You Want to Cancel

Contact us immediately at contact@inspireuplift.com or via live chat with:

  • The order number
  • Explanation that it was an unauthorized purchase by a minor
  • Whether the order has shipped yet

We handle these situations regularly and will work quickly to cancel unshipped orders or arrange returns for shipped ones. We understand that kids and devices are a tricky combination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I set a spending limit on my account? A: We don't have a built-in spending limit feature, but using a prepaid card loaded with a specific amount achieves the same effect. Once the prepaid card balance is exhausted, no further purchases can be made.

Q: Can I require a password or PIN for every purchase? A: Enabling two-factor authentication requires verification for every login, which effectively requires your approval before anyone can access the account to make purchases. Removing saved payment methods adds another barrier by requiring card details to be entered manually for every order.

Q: If I remove saved payment methods, will my existing orders be affected? A: No. Removing saved payment methods only affects future purchases. Existing orders, pending refunds, and Perks membership billing are not affected.

Q: My child knows my password and has access to my phone (for 2FA). What do I do? A: In this case, your best options are removing saved payment methods (so they'd need a physical card) and using a password your child doesn't know. You could also set up 2FA to use an email account your child can't access, or change your account password to something they don't know.

Q: Can I restrict purchases to only certain products or price ranges? A: We don't offer product or price-level restrictions. The most effective approach is controlling access to payment methods — without a card to pay with, no purchase can be completed regardless of what's in the cart.

Q: Will restricting my account affect my Perks membership? A: Removing saved payment methods won't immediately cancel your Perks membership, but it may cause the next monthly billing to fail. If you want to keep Perks active while restricting purchase ability, contact us and we can discuss options.

Q: Can I set my account to "browse only" mode? A: We don't have a formal browse-only mode, but removing all saved payment methods and enabling 2FA effectively creates one — anyone can browse, but only someone with both the verification code AND a payment card can complete a purchase.
