What should I do if an item is out of stock?

Options when products aren't available.

Don't give up on it yet — out-of-stock items often come back, and there are several ways to stay informed or find a great alternative. With 20M+ products from 55,000+ sellers, you're rarely without options. Here's what to do when the item you want isn't currently available.

Your Options

Add It to Your Wishlist Save the product to your wishlist so you can check back easily without searching for it again. If the seller restocks, the listing will show available inventory and you can purchase immediately. Your wishlist is accessible from any device when you're logged in — just check it periodically.

Contact the Seller Message the seller through the product page and ask if and when they plan to restock. Sellers appreciate knowing there's demand — your inquiry might even prompt them to prioritize restocking. Ask something like: "I'm interested in this product — do you have a restocking timeline?" Most sellers respond within 1-3 business days.

Search for Similar Products With 20M+ products across the marketplace, another seller very likely offers something comparable. Search for the product type using different keywords — a "bamboo desk organizer" might also be found as "wooden desktop storage" or "office caddy." Sort results by "Top Rated" to find the best-reviewed alternatives.

Contact Us Tell us what you're looking for and we'll search the marketplace for alternatives. Send us the product link and we'll help find comparable options or check with the seller about restocking. Email contact@inspireuplift.com or start a live chat.

Check Back Later Popular items are restocked regularly. If the seller has strong demand for a product, they'll typically replenish inventory. How quickly depends on the seller's supply chain — it could be days, weeks, or longer. Checking the product page weekly is a reasonable cadence.

Why Items Go Out of Stock

High demand. Popular products can sell out quickly, especially trending items, products featured on social media, and deals during sales events. This is the most common reason and usually means the seller will restock.

Seasonal availability. Some products are tied to seasons — holiday decor, summer accessories, back-to-school items. These may not be restocked until the next relevant season.

Limited edition or small batch. Some products are intentionally produced in limited quantities and may not be restocked once sold out. See our article: What's a Limited Edition Item?

Seller inventory management. Sellers manage their own stock levels. A seller may temporarily run out while waiting for new inventory from their supplier.

Discontinued products. Occasionally, sellers permanently stop offering a product. If the listing is removed entirely (not just out of stock), the product may not return.

How to Avoid Missing Out Next Time

Add items to your wishlist as soon as you spot them. Don't wait until you're ready to buy — save interesting products immediately so they're easy to find and purchase when you decide.

Buy when you see it. If you love a product and it's in stock, purchase it rather than waiting. Products can sell out at any time, especially popular items and limited edition products.

Watch for stock indicators. Listings showing "Only X left" or "Low Stock" are telling you the item may sell out soon. Treat these warnings as a prompt to buy now if you're serious.

Subscribe to our newsletter and follow social media. When popular products are restocked or new alternatives arrive, we often feature them in our emails and social posts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I be notified automatically when an out-of-stock item comes back? A: We don't currently have an automatic back-in-stock notification feature. Your best options are to add the item to your wishlist and check periodically, message the seller about restocking plans, and subscribe to our newsletter for product highlights.

Q: The item says "out of stock" — can I still order it? A: No. Out-of-stock items can't be added to your cart or purchased until the seller restocks them. Some sellers may offer pre-orders for upcoming restocks — look for a "Pre-Order" option on the product page.

Q: Is there a way to request that a seller restocks a specific item? A: Yes — message the seller directly through the product page. Knowing there's customer demand is one of the strongest motivators for a seller to restock. Your message may be exactly what tips them toward reordering from their supplier.

Q: A product I had in my cart went out of stock before I checked out. Can anything be done? A: Unfortunately, cart items aren't reserved. If a product sells out before you complete checkout, it's no longer available. This is why we recommend checking out promptly when you find something you want. Contact the seller about restocking or search for alternatives.
