Can I negotiate prices with sellers?

Bargaining for better deals.

Prices on product listings are generally fixed, but it's always okay to ask — especially for bulk orders, repeat purchases, or custom work. Our sellers are independent business owners who set their own prices. While most standard purchases are made at the listed price, there are situations where sellers may offer flexibility.

When Sellers May Offer Better Pricing

Bulk Orders This is where you have the most negotiating leverage. If you need 10, 50, or 100+ units of a product, many sellers will offer volume discounts. Larger quantities mean more revenue for the seller even at a lower per-unit price, so it's a win-win. For formal bulk pricing, see our article: Do You Offer Wholesale Pricing?

Repeat Purchases If you've bought from a seller multiple times and plan to keep buying, mention your history. Some sellers reward loyal customers with a small discount, free shipping, or other perks. A message like "I've placed three orders from your shop this year and love your products. Do you offer any returning customer pricing?" is perfectly appropriate.

Custom Orders When you're requesting a custom or modified product, there's natural room for discussion about pricing — especially if the customization simplifies production or if you're ordering multiple custom items at once.

Multiple Items From the Same Seller Buying several different products from the same seller in one order? Ask about a bundle discount. Sellers save on packaging and shipping when they consolidate items, and some are happy to pass part of that savings along.

How to Ask

Message the seller through their product page or shop page. Be polite, specific, and reasonable:

Good approach: "Hi! I'm interested in ordering 20 of these for a corporate event. Would you be able to offer a bulk discount? Thanks!"

"I've been a repeat customer — my last order was #XXXXXXX. I'm planning another purchase and wondering if you offer any returning customer pricing."

"I'd love to buy three different items from your shop. Do you offer a discount for multi-item orders?"

Not recommended: Demanding a lower price on a single standard item, asking for unreasonable discounts (50% off a fairly priced product), or being pushy if a seller declines. Their listed prices reflect their costs, time, and value — respect their pricing even if it's more than you hoped.

When Prices Are Firm

For standard individual purchases, most sellers' prices are fixed — and that's reasonable. Their pricing already accounts for materials, labor, platform fees, shipping logistics, and their margin. Our marketplace is competitive, and most sellers price fairly to begin with.

If a product is above your budget, you have other options besides negotiation: search for similar products from other sellers at a lower price point, wait for a sale — sellers run promotions throughout the year, use coupon codes if you have any active ones, join Perks ($4.97/month, first month free) for free shipping and 2% cashback on every order which effectively reduces every price, and check during major sales events (Black Friday, Cyber Monday) when many sellers offer their deepest discounts.

Important: Always Pay Through Our Platform

If a seller agrees to a special price, the transaction should still go through our checkout system. The seller may create a custom listing at the agreed price, adjust the price on the existing listing, or provide a coupon code for the discount.

Never send payment directly to a seller outside our platform — no PayPal transfers, wire transfers, gift cards, or off-platform payments. These transactions aren't covered by our Purchase Protection, and requests to pay outside our system are a red flag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is it rude to ask for a lower price? A: Not if you have a reasonable basis — bulk quantities, repeat business, or multi-item bundles. For standard single-item purchases, it's generally better to compare options across sellers rather than asking an individual seller to lower their price. Approach it as a question ("Do you offer...?") rather than a demand.

Q: A seller agreed to a discount but the listing still shows full price. What do I do? A: Ask the seller how they'll apply the discount — they may create a custom listing, send you a coupon code, or adjust the price on the existing listing. Wait for the seller to confirm the mechanism before purchasing at the listed price. If there's confusion, contact us and we'll help coordinate.

Q: Can I negotiate shipping costs? A: Shipping costs are based on carrier rates and are less negotiable than product prices. However, joining Perks eliminates shipping costs entirely — free shipping on every order. For bulk orders, sellers may offer combined shipping that reduces the per-item shipping cost.

Q: I found the same product cheaper from another seller. Can I use that as leverage? A: You can mention it, but most sellers set prices based on their own costs rather than matching competitors. If another seller offers a better price for a comparable product, you're welcome to buy from them — that's the benefit of a marketplace with 55,000+ sellers and healthy competition.
